Activity

 Activities of the organization:

Community Support Group Meeting

Moitrisanjog society works for the transgender community, mental health of community members and child education. That is why it is very much needed to arrange community support group meeting in every month. Transgender people often experience specific challenges related to their gender identity, gender expression, and living in a cisnormative world. That is true whether you’re a teen who wants to figure out how to come out to your parents, an elderly person struggling to fit into an assisted living community, or someone exploring their gender identity for the first time. Because transgender individuals might have trauma as a result of discrimination, support groups with a trauma-informed approach can meet the specific needs of trans participants.

Being part of a support group can help a transgender person find resources created specifically for people like the same to cope with obstacles. Transgender support groups can be a way to feel better about your life, not just by getting help but by helping others.

There are a lot of female who faced domestic violence in their marital home by there husbands and the other family members. In most of the such cases the women have no other persons to talk on this point rather they also feel unsafe every time in the society. The community support group meeting can help them to gather courage and to have a bonding with other same members.

There is a lot of man also, who currently have no jobs to earn, and on the other hand there is a lot of male who are very much addicted to drugs. The community support group meeting can help them to find a job as well as to leave their addiction.

Sensitization program

Sensitization workshops are one day motivational programs to sensitize the  Police , Teacher, Hospital , local Chub , School Students , political leader , Govt. official Etc. to make them realize the importance of entrepreneurship. Sensitization literally means making people 'sensitive' about an issue. This is the core of awareness raising and is what a person ideally want to achieve – that people become aware and react to certain issues.

Perspective building and capacity building program

Capacity-building is defined as the process of developing and strengthening the skills, instincts, abilities, processes and resources that organizations and communities need to survive, adapt, and thrive in a fast-changing world. An essential ingredient in capacity-building is transformation that is generated and sustained over time from within; transformation of this kind goes beyond performing tasks to changing mindsets and attitudes.

Child Education program

Since 2009, Moitrisanjog Society worker for the transgender community people and for the childs education. Moitrisanjog runs a childs educational centre, namely as Gurukul. In the educational centre the childs come to gather knowledge, to get food and to get books and other stationary things. Gurukul is the only school in West Bengal which is run by the transgender community.

Relief Drive ( Emergency support )
Emergency relief is defined as “the provision of essential needs to individuals, families and communities in the immediate aftermath of an emergency”.
Emergency relief includes, Immediate provision of emergency relief at the site of the emergency. Provision of relief services elsewhere, including, To those remaining in homes, workplaces and schools or other areas rather than evacuating or relocating.
The provision of life support and essential needs to people affected by an emergency is the first stage of emergency recovery. In this respect, emergency relief functions are well integrated within early recovery activities.
Moitrisanjog Society provides emergency relief as and when necessary. In the winter season, Moitrisanjog Society distribute warm blanket to the needy. When any girl is not getting married just due to have lack of funds, Moitrisanjog helps them to arrange to complete the marriage. In todays society, whenever anyone is being needed on any matter which is emergency in nature, Moitrisanjog comes and help them as far as practicable.

Livelihood program ( paper plat making , parlour , mat making , Catering )

In every quarter month, Moitrisanjog arrange livelihood program for LGBTQ community members and for the women also. By doing the training of livelihood program one can easily get a job, and earn their own bread. in the livelihood program there are paper plat making, beauty parlour training, mat making training, catering training etc.. The livelihood program is a great initiative  and by that program many LGBTQ community members and many women got jobs or start their own businesses.

About Us

 MOITRISANJOG SOCIETY

A Registered Community Based Organization

Background

Persons who do not fit into the socially constructed gender binary and the heteronormative

sexual behaviour, those who identify themselves as transgender, Kothi, Hijras have been facing

tremendous violence and discrimination in our society which is plagued by the patriarchal

mindset. It has been quite challenging to grow up as an individual with all dignity, rights and

equal opportunity for a gender-unidentified person and a person having a different sexual

orientation. This group of people are unwelcome, and unaccepted in the family and in all other

sections of a larger society as a result of which they have become the victim of rampant

violence and discrimination. Most often they left with no other choice but to commit suicide or

begging / sex work for living. The situation in the rural areas are even worse.

Given that back in 2009, a few transgender / gender variant persons based at Cooch Behar,

North Bengal used to regularly meet and share their own stories of struggle and painful lives in

order to vent out their pain and find solidarity in each other. Gradually more people were

added to the informal group. Their ideas and thoughts started taking shape, they got enough

strength from each other to collectively fight against the discrimination and violence inflicted

on them. This solidarity group eventually turned out to be a community based organisation

(CBO) back in 2011.

The CBO was named Moitrisanjog, meaning “a network to connect friends”. Thus, the

Moitrisanjog Society got officially registered under Society Act as a CBO in the year 2011. The

society is committed to protest the violence against the queer community. The main objective

of our society is to provide a supportive network to ensure that everyone from the queer

community gets equal opportunity, rights and entitlements to grow as a human being with

dignity and respect. Our society strives to provide financial security to the community through

establishing alternative livelihoods such as the craftsmanship program. We also provide the

community members with health, counseling and legal-aid services. We advocate for equal

access to education, employment etc. Besides, we organise awareness programs in the larger

society to fight against discrimination and violence.

Vision

The organization visualizes a scenario in the near future where trans-people, hijras, gays and

lesbians will live with respect and dignity and as equals in society.

Mission

The mission of the organization is to reach out to people in Coochbehar who are transgender or

gender variant and mobilize them to protest against socio-domestic violence. The mission also

includes developing solidarity networks in society to sensitize them to issues faced by these

marginalized communities and advocate for social protections such as access to healthcare and

employment.
